Jon Openshaw is an operatic baritone, who studied on the English National Opera course ‘The Knack’, and has obtained the ATCL and LTCL diplomas in singing performance.
As a professional singer, Jon has performed with a number of professional opera companies including Garsington Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, Heritage Opera, Opera South and Opera Up Close, as well as performing with semi-professional and amateur companies such as Surrey Opera and Hampstead Garden Opera.
He has sung as a soloist for various choirs and choral societies, including locally, Sussex Chorus, West Sussex Philharmonic Choir, and Sussex Voiceworks.
Jon continues to study singing privately with Neil Baker, having previously studied with Professor Susan McCulloch.
Jon has been directing choirs around Horsham for a number of years since moving to the area in 2012. He has been the Musical Director of One Accord ladies’ choir since 2015 and recently stood down as director of the North Singers, Loxwood after a nine-year stint. He directed a chamber choir, Socii Cantorum, while at Sheffield University and has also deputised as MD for West Sussex Youth Choirs, Sandgate Singers and Sussex Voiceworks choir.
He teaches singing privately in Horsham, specialising in classical vocal technique, and attracts students from far and wide. Jon currently teaches at Rikkyo School, in Rudgwick, and has also been engaged by Worth Abbey to provide vocal coaching for their choir members.
